Coming out of Hibernation – the 2018 Season

Welcome back to the new season!  I am sure you have been missing the fun of reading about the exploits of our brave band of cricketers, but the show is about to get on the road once again.  In the absence of your weekly fix of match reports, there is always the club’s Facebook page, where you can keep up to date with latest winners of the 100 club draw (where a certain Kathryn Lees seems to be doing rather well).  Barrie James is well into his pre-season training, with the Tavy Joggers.  Meanwhile my brother has been playing cricket in Malta; shame he lives in North Yorkshire!

Last season we finished a creditable mid-table, with our final match of the season against Callington rained off, we were unable to resume battle with the great local rivals.  The pend of season presentation saw the main trophy , Player’s Player going to Sylvan Pook, for his evergreen bowling performances.  He tells me he has been practising to add spin to his repertoire this summer.  Opposition batsmen be aware….

Other prizes went to:

  • Best bowler: Paul Lees
  • Batting award: Brian Martin
  • Most catches: Stephen Lees
  • Best newcomer: Iain Barker

Meanwhile the weather has been so appalling that the Cornwall league have given clubs dispensation to re-arrange or cancel opening fixtures.  Our first match of the season will therefore, hopefully be at home to St Blazey II on Saturday 28th April.  We also intend to enter the Isaac Foot Cup this year, a 20 over evening competition run at Callington Cricket Club.

New talent or old returners always welcome.  Please contract either myself on 01579 350977 or our secretary, Brian Martin, on 07803 456288.
