Match report: Tideford

Gunnislake limped away from this match in part literally, with Tony pulling a calf muscle and Paul injuring his groin.  The older contingent survived unscathed, so we will have the think about getting Barrie and Geoff to lead our sports physiotherapy department.  However, by the end of the match nine men had been soundly beaten by a strong Tideford side, who had been playing a division higher before the winter League restructure.

Tideford won the toss and asked Gunnislake to bat.  A slow but steady start failed to lead to the required mid innings acceleration.  Some lusty blows from George, Josh and loanee Ryan all ended a little prematurely and the innings petered out to a conclusion at 109 for 8 off the allotted 40 overs.

After a hearty tea Tideford took to their reply with purpose.  Despite some tidy Gunnislake bowling he runs flowed steadily.  Two catches gave us a bowling point to add to two batting points, but Phil Ruse, with 59 not out, nearly won the match on his own.  Perhaps he will be promoted to their first team before our return fixture?

Scott’s BMW was admired by many and Tideford were great hosts, also providing a buffet in the pub afterwards.  See what you missed Adrian et al! Next week we play Launceston, where we have high hopes of a better result.  See you there?

Gunnislake 109 for 8 (S Lees 29, R Knight 18, G Jefferis 15; A Ellacott 4 for 20)  Tideford 110 for 2 (P Ruse 59 n.o.)  Tideford (19 points) beat Gunnislake (3 points) by eight wickets.
